비가오면 우산이 잘 팔리고!
햇빛이 쨍쨍나면 부채(짚신)가 잘 팔리고!
햇빛이 쨍쨍 ~ 둘째가 잘돼서 좋구나!
비가 펑펑 ~ 큰아들이 잘돼서 좋구나!
그러지 말고 동업하자.
비 안오는 날은 우산장수 그만두고, 짚신 팔러... (동생 가게로...)
비 오는 날은 짚신장수 그만두고, 우산 팔러... (형님 가게로...)

Umbrella Merchant and Fan Merchant
옛날 두 아들을 둔 어머니가 살았어요
Long time ago, there was a mom with two sons
그런데 어머니는 늘 두 아들 때문에
But because of these two sons, the mom
마음이 편할 날이 없었지요
Was uneasy everyday
왜냐하면 큰 아들은 우산 장수였고
Because the elder son was umbrella merchant
작은 아들은 부채 장수였기 때문이에요
And younger son was fan merchant
날씨가 더운 날이면 어머니는 하늘만 쳐다보았어요
When it was hot day, mom would loot up at sky and say
‘아이구! 이렇게 날씨가 덥고 맑으니 우산이 안 팔리겠구나’
“ahh, the umbrella would not sell because it is such a nice day’
또 비가 오는 날이면 어머니는 땅만 내려다보았어요
When it was raining, mom would look at the ground and say
‘아이구! 이렇게 비가 오니 부채가 안 팔리겠구나’
‘ahh, the fan would not sell because it is raining’
그러던 어느 날 이웃집 아주머니가 놀러 와서 말했어요
But one day, the neighbor came over and said
“그렇게 늘 걱정만 하지 말고 반대로 생각하시면 어떼요?”
“why don’t you stop worrying and think in a opposite way?”
“반대로 생각하다니요?” 어머니의 눈이 휘둥그레졌어요
Think in opposite way?” the mom was puzzled
“날씨가 더우면 부채 장사가 잘되고,
“when it is hot, the fan will sell well,
비가 오면 우산 장사가 잘 된다고 좋아하면 되잖아요”

그 말을 듣고 어머니는 크게 기뻐하였어요

그 뒤로 어머니는 아들 걱정에서 벗어나 행복하게 살았답니다.
